It darkens, protects from the heat, and closed it adds security too. In manual, motorised and remote-controlled versions.
A roller shutter is not one single product. The real question is where the box goes, because that decides whether it can be fitted at all during a refurbishment and whether it will be visible on the facade. There are three solutions, each available with aluminium and with PVC slats.
In new build and in window replacement alike. The box goes above the window frame, directly under the lintel.
There is insulation inside the box, so its heat transmission is favourable. It is also made in a version that can be plastered over on the outside, or even on both sides.
Typically in new build. The box goes under the lintel and the insulation covers it.
Once plastered, the box is not visible from the outside head on, only the lower service opening. NOTE: the size of the window cannot be given by eye here; it needs a junction drawing, because the lintel, the wall and the thickness of the future insulation all count.
In a refurbishment and in new build alike. The box goes onto the outer plane of the window, so it can be fitted afterwards too.
The box and the slats are both made of aluminium, they are fully blackout, and they can be ordered in several colours to match the style of the window.
The drawings are the manufacturer's official diagrams and are illustrative. The box of the PVC-slat version is built in the same way.

The width is the maximum the manufacturer accepts for a single unit. For a wider opening the unit can be split, and we look at that at the survey.
More durable, and lowered it increases burglary protection: it makes reaching the window appreciably harder. The inner core of the slat is insulating material, so it improves the thermal insulation a little as well. It stands up better to hail and storms. Maximum 240 cm wide.
Cheaper, and enough for most residential buildings. It blocks light and is easy to fit. Maximum 160 cm wide, so on its own it is no longer enough for a large terrace door.
Every version can be ordered with a built-in insect screen and with motorised operation. A concealed end stop is standard on every roller shutter, which prevents the bottom slat from turning into the box when it is raised.

We manufacture to measure, so the size of the opening and the quantity are the first factors. With several items the unit price is usually more favourable.
There is a real difference between manual and motorised operation, and the choice of material matters too. We can write out both in the quote so that you see it in forints.
Fitting it later means a separate call-out and separate making good. On a high-mounted structure scaffolding is occasionally needed too, but that only comes up a few times a year. If it is done in the same visit as the window replacement, most of this falls away.
